NGC7293 the Helix Nebula

The Helix Nebula (also known as NGC 7293 or Caldwell 63) is a planetary nebula (PN) located in the constellation Aquarius.

The Helix Nebula is an example of a planetary nebula, formed by an intermediate to low-mass star, which sheds its outer layers near the end of its evolution. Gases from the star in the surrounding space appear, from our vantage point, as if we are looking down a helix structure. The remnant central stellar core, known as the central star (CS) of the planetary nebula, is destined to become a white dwarf star. The observed glow of the central star is so energetic that it causes the previously expelled gases to brightly fluoresce.

The Cats Paw Nebula

At 5,500 light years distant, the Cat's Paw is an emission nebula with a red color that originates from an abundance of ionized hydrogen atoms. Stars nearly ten times the mass of our Sun have been born there in the past few million years.

The Southern Tadpoles Nebula

This beautiful spiral galaxy is about 25 million light years away. NGC 6744 is believed to one of the most Milky Way-like of all the nearby spirals, with fluffy (flocculent) spiral arms and a large and distinctly elongated nucleus.

NGC 6744 also has at least one distorted companion galaxy, superficially similar to one of the Magellanic Clouds. The northernmost spiral arm of NGC 6744 is most likely being stretched due to tidal pull from the dwarf companion. The companion will ultimately merge with NGC 6744 in the distant future.

NGC6357 the War and Peace Nebula

This nebula was nicknamed the "War and Peace" Nebula by Midcourse Space Experiment scientists, who said that in infrared images the bright, western part resembled a dove, while the eastern part looked like a skull.

NGC 6357 spans about 400 light years, and lies about 8,000 light years away. For reasons unknown, NGC 6357 is forming some of the most massive stars ever discovered. The central star in the nebula is actually one of the most massive known, exceeding 200 solar masses.

NGC6188 the Fighting Dragons of Ara

NGC 6188 is an interstellar carnival of young blue stars, hot red gas, and cool dark dust. Dark shapes with bright edges winging their way through dusty NGC 6188 are tens of light-years long. Located 4300 light years away, NGC 6188 is home to the Ara OB1 association, a group of bright young stars that spans a full square degree of the southern sky. Its nucleus forms the open cluster NGC 6193, embedded in an area cloaked by thick gas clouds and obscuring lanes of dust. Its stars are so bright that some of their light reflects off the interstellar dust, forming a diffuse blue glow.

NGC2070 the Tarantula Nebula

NGC 2070 is the largest and brightest emission nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), and one of the largest emission nebulae known. The Tarantula Nebula has an apparent magnitude of 8. Considering its distance of about 160,000 light years, it is so bright that if it were as close to Earth as the Orion Nebula, the Tarantula Nebula would cast shadows.

IC4628 the Prawn Nebula

Prawn Nebula, also known as IC 4628, is an emission nebula located in the Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way, around 6,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Scorpius. It forms part of the tail of the "False Comet" anchored by the bright open cluster NGC 6231.

SH2-313(Abell 35) is a very faint Mag 13.3 planetary nebula with an unusual binary central star located in Corvus.

I would have liked to get at least 60 hrs in this but that likely won’t happen now till next season so here it is at 27 hrs.

M20 the Trifid Nebula

Messier 20 (NGC 6514) is also known as the Trifid Nebula. Named for its three-lobed appearance, it is one of the most famous objects in the sky. This object is an unusual combination of an open cluster of stars, an emission nebula, a reflection nebula, and a dark nebula that divides the emission nebula into three parts.

NGC3372 the Carina Nebula

NGC 3372, the Eta Carinae Nebula, also known as the Great Nebula in Carina, is a large bright nebula that surrounds several open clusters. The nebula can be seen with the naked eye. The star Eta Carinae, a giant variable star, is among the most massive and luminous stars in the Milky Way.

The central part of NGC 3372 is known as the Keyhole Nebula, a famous dark zone seen near Eta Carinae. With binoculars one can see the nebula, which appear as three fan shaped areas with dark lanes in between. The Eta Carinae Nebula was discovered by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille in 1751-52 from the Cape of Good Hope.

This first magnitude nebula is one of the largest H II regions in the Milky Way and is one of the largest diffuse nebulae in the sky. Although it is some four times as large and much brighter than the famous Orion Nebula, the Carina Nebula is less well known, due to its location far in the Southern Hemisphere. The nebula lies at an estimated distance between 6,500 and 10,000 light years from Earth.

IC2944 the Running Chicken Nebula

Discovered by Royal Harvard Frost in 1906-8, this object is also dubbed the "Running Chicken Nebula."IC 2948 is a large (40'), almost featureless emission nebula between the the Southern Cross and the rich Carina region, around the star Lambda Centauri. Against this uniform, bright backdrop we see a small group of dark clouds known as 'Bok globules'. They are named for the Dutch-American astronomer who first drew attention to them as possible sites of star formation. The Bok Globules discovered in IC 2948 by South African astronomer A. David Thackeray in 1950 are now known as Thackeray's Globules. These dark markings are discrete, opaque dust clouds, the largest containing enough material to form several stars the mass of the sun. The globules are not some line-of-sight coincidence; the brightened rim of the largest clearly shows it to be associated with the nebulosity of IC 2948, at a distance of about 6000 light years. The nebula spans about 70 light-years.
